Your Way

Ezekiel 33:17-20, “Yet your people say, “The way of the Lord is not just,” when it is their own way that is not just. When the righteous turn from their righteousness, and commit iniquity, they shall die for it. And when the wicked turn from their wickedness, and do what is lawful and right, they shall live by it. Yet you say, “The way of the Lord is not just.” O house of Israel, I will judge all of you according to your ways!

It is not a unique characteristic of modernity for humans to selfishly seek her or his own way. As you can see, Ezekiel was the bearer of God’s truth: “I will judge all of you according to your ways!” We would rather have God’s mercy than God’s judgment. The issue comes back to having our cake and eating it too. We want to ‘play’ but we don’t want to ‘pay’ for the ‘play’. In this ‘me-for-me’ world we realize that this human self-centeredness why God has been calling us into accountability along a continuum. We fail to turn to God and His Way through Jesus Christ – no matter what God does. We do not want justice or judgment even though we cry out for them – we want mercy. God will judge us according to our ways so let our way be His Way.

Prayer: Merciful God thank You for today and for redemption through Your Son Jesus Christ. Please help us follow Your Holy Way through Your Son Jesus Christ. Help us see the folly of our ways and return us to You. This we pray in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
