Children, Dogs and God

This is Sabbath Eve. It’s quiet. The pup is exhausted from our long walk. Her warm head is resting on my bare foot. When I think of dogs I think of what a preschooler asked me one day. “Pastor did you know that dog spelled backwards is God?” I told her that was a good one and thanked her and she skipped off holding her Mom’s hand heading home for the day. She made my day.

Luke 18:15-17, “People were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them; and when the disciples saw it, they sternly ordered them not to do it. But Jesus called for them and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it.” I think there is a perception with children of what is Holy. Why do we dismiss them as they ramble through their thoughts? Listen to them – their hearts will tell you much.

Prayer: Loving God thank you for the gift of life. Thank you for Jesus. Thank you for children. Thank you for dogs. You see Father all these bring joy into our lives and each comes from you. Help us to recognize the gifts of mercy and love that we receive in your Name. AMEN!!
