“O LORD, how many are my foes! Many are rising against me; many are saying to me, “There is no help for you in God.”
Selah
But you, O LORD, are a shield around me, my glory, and the one who lifts up my head.
I cry aloud to the LORD, and he answers me from his holy hill.
Selah
I lie down and sleep; I wake again, for the LORD sustains me. I am not afraid of ten thousands of people who have set themselves against me all around. Rise up, O LORD! Deliver me, O my God! For you strike all my enemies on the cheek; you break the teeth of the wicked. Deliverance belongs to the LORD; may your blessing be on your people!
Selah”
“I lie down and sleep; I wake again, for the LORD sustains me.” What a comfort to know that when our head goes down on the pillow that there is none but God for sustenance. When we sleep He watches over us and keeps us and when we awake He awakens us with the gentleness of God our Creator. There was a saint in a former church family whose prayer at the end of each Bible study was simple, “We go to sleep with you, please wake us again in the morning to serve you.” Sabbath rest and refreshment as God blesses our sleep to wake us again to His service.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, rock us gently to our rest and wake us gently in the morn. May we follow You with the grace and love toward others that You have shown to us. We pray this in the redeeming Name of Jesus. AMEN!
