Matthew 6:30-33, “But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you—you of little faith? Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ For it is the Gentiles who strive for all these things; and indeed your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But strive first for the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
This scripture for us is about sequence. You’ve heard and maybe used the expression, “Don’t put the cart before the horse.” Jesus makes that very clear when He said, “Strive first for the kingdom of God and His righteousness.” Let's get our priorities straight. Let's get our primary relationship right before we move forward or laterally. Why do we make things so difficult for ourselves? Because God gave us the ability to multitask we forget that God also gave us the ability to place our priorities. Before we attempt to have relationships with others we need to solidify and enable our relationship with God.
That happens when we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior and Redeemer. We then must confess our sins, seek God’s forgiveness and the forgiveness of those whom we have hurt and repent, that is, stand up promising to sin no more. Ah ha! Gotcha! Not really. We are humans with feet of clay and God knows that we will sin again unintentionally but He has given us a remedy. We begin our day in prayer seeking God’s blessing, influence and will then at the end of the day we confess, seek forgiveness and repent before our eyes close in sleep. Remember this: “Tomorrow is not promised.”
Prayer: Merciful and loving God you have given us a Way back to You. That Way is through Jesus Christ who promised that whatever we ask in His Name would be granted. Forgive us where we have fallen short of Your Glory and failed to be faithful followers. Guide us in Your Holy Way that we may live eternally with You. In Jesus’ Sacred Name. AMEN!
