If you know me, you will know my Father

My Mom and our neighbor were talking over the fence one day and the neighbor asked my Mom who the boy was playing in our yard. Mom answered, “He’s Robert’s son. He’s just like Robert.” There was much that troubled the disciples about Jesus and the things He taught, how He lived and His healings. When Jesus was preparing the disciples for the time of His departure they had angst of the first order. You hear it Thomas’ words as he tells Jesus that they don’t know where He is going. Jesus’ words are simple for us to grasp as, “Thomas said to him, Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you know me, you will know my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.” Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do not know me? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?” (John 14:5-9)

It would take a while for the disciples to ‘get it.’ And we are not unlike them. For many of us it has taken us a while to ‘get it.’ What we need to know is simple; Jesus is the only Way to eternal life with God. They were more impatient than ever but He calmed them by telling them that if they had seen Him that they had also seen the Father. We need nothing or no one more to bring us to eternal life. There is none but Jesus as our Way back to a perfect relationship with God.

Prayer: How Great Thou Art Almighty God. You provided us a Way back to you so that our eternity would be spent in Your glory. Thank you Father for loving us this much. Bless each of us this day. Strengthen us for Your purpose and help us live as Jesus lived. For we will follow His Way to You. In Jesus’ Holy Name. AMEN!!
