Isaiah 53:10, “Yet it was the will of the LORD to crush him with pain. When you make his life an offering for sin, he shall see his offspring, and shall prolong his days; through him the will of the LORD shall prosper.” You cannot read the New Covenant (Testament) without reading the Old Covenant (Testament). Though Isaiah seems so far removed from how we understand what God did through His Son Jesus Christ what we really learn is that God has always been in the midst of humanity’s suffering. Instead of observing from afar, God made Himself flesh and dwelt among us – Jesus. Isaiah spoke of God’s Incarnate self as the sin offering – the sacrifice made for our sin debt. Isaiah didn’t know Jesus the Man but he did know God for God revealed to Isaiah His purpose. Isaiah revealed to the world what God intended to do. And God did it – God allowed His only Son to pay our sin debt with His offering of Himself. God had dwelt among us and visited our suffering, sat with us and felt our troubles, wept with us in the depths of our despair and then gave His life so that we could be return to the Father. In the words of the Passion hymn, “What wondrous love is this O my soul, O my soul…what wondrous love is this that caused the Lord of bliss to bear the dreadful curse for my soul?”
Prayer: Lord God, Creator – Redeemer – Holy Spirit, lover of my soul who gave His very life for me I thank you! My soul trembles for you, my legs never grow tired, my hearts never gives up in my hope of your eternal promise. Forgive me where I have fallen short of your glory. Thank you Lord Jesus for I pray this in Jesus’ Name. AMEN
